Two Women Killed in Shreveport Car Accident

A car accident, Friday, at 3:45 pm, claimed the lives of two women when the vehicle they were traveling in flipped several times on Interstate 12 in Walker, just east of Baton Rouge.

The 2000 Ford Explorer was traveling west on I-12, pulling a trailer that had possibly blow out, according to police.

The driver, 48, and the passenger, 20, were both ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. A third person was also in the SUV at the time of the accident. He sustained moderate injuries.

Witnesses say they saw the trailer sway back and forth prior to going into the median and flipping over many times.

One Person Injured in Two Vehicle Collision

In a two car accident, on Sunday night, that occurred at Salisbury Street and Fowler Avenue in Lafayette, sent one person to the hospital for medical treatment.

At approximately 5:35, two sport utility vehicles collided and one of the vehicles, a white Nissan Pathfinder, turned over. Both drivers refused any medical treatment at the scene of the accident but a middle aged passenger in the Pathfinder was transported to St. Elizabeth Medical Center for medical observation.

A West Lafayette Officer said it appears as though one of the vehicles ran through a red light. The accident is still being investigated by state police.

Woman Killed in Car Wreck

A Ragley woman was killed in a fatal car accident on Texas Eastern Road just north of Topsy in Jeff Davis Parish.

The accident victim was a 25-year-old woman.

Police report she was riding in the front seat when the driver, a 46-year-old woman, lost control of her vehicle in a curve and ran into a ditch. A two year old child, also in the car at the time of the accident was transported to the hospital suffering from moderate injuries.

The driver of the vehicle was booked at Jeff Davis Parish Jail. She is being charged with vehicular homicide, vehicle negligent injuring and DWI with child endangerment.

Police Chase Ends in Fatal Crash

A man died in a car accident late Saturday after a police chase, Louisiana state police reports.

The 25-year-old man was being pursued by a marked patrol car for an alleged speeding violation and failure to yield when he lost control of his Chevy Caprice at 8:20pm.

He drove his car too fast into a right hand curve on State Highway 2 west of State Highway 152 when he lost control of the vehicle, reports said. The car went into the ditch on the shout side of the road and rolled over many times before finally coming to rest upside down. He was not wearing his seat belt and was partially ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

State police are investigating the accident. It is still unknown at this time if he was impaired or under the influence of drugs or alcohol pending toxicology tests.

Two Fatalities in Car Wreck

Two people were killed in a single car accident on Saturday, including an 8-year-old boy that was traveling in the bed of the pickup truck.

According to Police, the child was riding in the back of the truck with a 37-year-old man around 2 pm.

The driver of the truck lost control causing it to veer off to the left of the road. The truck flipped, ejecting the passenger, a woman, traveling inside the truck. The child and passenger in the bed of the truck were also ejected.

Police are still uncertain if the driver was wearing his seatbelt. The other passengers were not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, say police.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The child was pronounced dead at the hospital and his name was not released.

The driver was taken to Lafayette General Medical Center with moderate injuries.

Police say charges are still pending. In Louisiana, it is illegal for anyone under the age of 12 to ride in the open bed of a pickup truck. The law does not apply to emergency situations.

Three Crashes - Three Fatalities

Three unrelated car accidents in Lafayette and Evangeline parishes on Tuesday ended in three fatalities, all which are being investigated by state police.

Just after midnight Tuesday, a hit and run accident left a 19-year-old man dead.

Troopers say Carrera was traveling in his pickup when an 18-wheeler was trying to cross Johnson Street. The 18-wheeler pulled into the path of Carrera's truck which caused him to run off the road into a ditch and flip over. The driver of the 18-wheeler fled the scene.

Carrera was taken to Lafayette General medical Center where he did as a result of his extensive injuries. A search is ongoing for the driver of the 18-wheeler.

In Evagline Parish, at 12:24am, a 31-year old woman was killed after a 19-year-old man struck her with his vehicle, said state police.

Gallow was walking westbound in the eastbound lane when she was hit by a pick up truck. The driver was intoxicated at the scene and arrested. She died from her injuries.

Later at 5:58am, a Lafayette man was hit and killed by a car as he tried to cross the interstate.

Police say the 23-year-old man was crossing the intersection when a car swerved to avoid hitting him but was unable too. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Man Killed in Crash had left the Scene of an Earlier Crash

A Lafayette man that was killed in a car crash on Monday, had fled the scene of another crash in Delphi, police said.

The driver suffered fatal injuries when his Dodge pickup truck went off the road and crashed into many trees. He was pronounced dead at St. Elizabeth Medical Center shortly after arriving.

Officials say they smelled alcohol at the scene but there is currently no further information about toxicology testing or blood-alcohol levels.

Police report, 20 minutes prior to the crash, the driver was involved in another crash and had fled the scene.

Driver Indicted on Charges in Car Accident

The driver involved in a car accident that ended with four people dead has been indicted on negligent homicide charges.

The driver, of Lafayette, Louisiana, now faces up to five years in prison on each of the four counts.

Anti-racing billboards and a resolution in the Legislature have been prompted by the deaths, calling for a public safety campaign to stop street racing.

It is unclear whether there was a race going on at the time the accident occurred on Lafayette's Ambassador Caffery Parkway.

Two Die in Head-On Car Crash

Just before 6am in front of M&M International and Pinnacle Oilfield Service, a fatal car accident occured when a black Scion TC was trying to pass a vehicle and crashed with a pickup truck head-on, killing both men from each vehicle.

One witness, an M&M employee Mike Martin, was about 30ft from the crash outside the front door. The crash caused both vehicles to land in a ditch in front of both businesses. Martin was unable to speak to media at the scene.

Several workers rushed to put out the flames of the Scion's engine, which had detached from the car and was lying 40 feet away on the other side of the roadway.

"We put the engine fire out and part of the truck that was also on fire," Melancon said.

Willie Williams, Louisiana State Trooper, said the Scion was traveling east, passing another vehicle in a no-passing zone. The Dodge was traveling west, he said, when the crash happened. The Scion's driver was ejected and the front-wheel assembly was torn from the vehicle.

At about 7:20 a.m., State Police were placing a black bag over the Scion's driver, who was lying in the road closer to the railroad tracks. He was apparently bleeding from his chest area; his white shirt was entirely covered in blood. By 7:50, authorities were using the "Jaws of Life" to extract the driver of the pickup truck, as female and male workers turned their eyes away from the grisly scene.
Melancon said "both appeared dead on impact." Police cleared the scene and refused to allow anyone closer as rescue workers attempted to extract the truck's driver from his vehicle.

Witnesses Sought in Three Car Crash

A three-car-accident, on Saturday, has State Police looking for witnesses. The accident resulted in a fatality and closed the highway for many hours.

Two cars, a Toyota Avalon and a Toyota Corolla were going westbound on I-10. Troopers are looking for witnesses who can give them some insight as to why both drivers lost control of their vehicles and veered off the roadway. The Corolla veered off to the right, struck a construction sign and came to a halt in the grassy area of the shoulder. The Avalon veered left, crossed the median sideways and entered into the eastbound lanes.

When the Avalon crossed into the eastbound lanes, it was hit by a Honda Accord. After crashing the Avalon continued across the interstate and came to rest on the off-ramp.

The driver of the Avalon, Kendalyn Luque, 29 of Baton Rouge, sustained moderate injuries and her passenger, Patricia Thomas, 47, of Wylie, TX, sustained serious injuries. Thomas was later pronounced dead by the Baton Rouge General hospital staff at the Bluebonnet location.
The driver of the Toyota Corolla, Amy T. Triche, 21, and her passenger, Celeste Robichaux, 20, of Raceland, were not injured and refused medical aid at the scene. The driver of the Honda Accord, Richard Rotharmel, III, 19, of Baton Rouge, sustained moderate injuries.
All of the occupants in this crash wore a safety belt and alcohol is not suspected to be a factor. It was raining at the time of the crash. This crash remains under investigation.
